Hi all 6B 2006 pupils,

The gathering organised by Sharlene and company is on 9 June 2007, Saturday. I am posting this information on their behalf. Please meet at 11 a.m. at White Sands Shopping Centre, Macdonalds. All will proceed to Pasir Ris Park from there. The gathering is until 6 p.m. Please bring food for the pot-luck picnic and an extra change of clothes.

A warning from me, your ex form teacher: No wading, swimming or horse play in the sea! I am sure you are all aware of the recent drowning of 2 Indian boys. No lifeguards on duty there. The sea may be deceptively calm but you may be caught in a rip current and get swept out to sea. Be water safe.

I will be joining you between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thank you for the invitation. :-)

Hi everyone,

Has reality sunk in yet? You have left primary school and you will be among unfamiliar faces in an entirely new environment. Those of you who are planning to appeal to enter the secondary school of your choice, I wish you the best of luck. Exciting times are ahead of you and I hope that you will take your work seriously in secondary school as it is not a walk in the park.

Next year, I will be teaching in the p.m. session. If any one of you would like to drop by the school to visit me, be sure to e-mail me first at sim_hwee_khoon@moe.edu.sg so that I know when to expect you.

I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Soar in secondary school and be the pride of White Sands! Take care!

Hi 6 Brilliant,

For those of you who scored well, I want to extend my heartiest congratulations. You have worked hard and you are now enjoying the fruits of your labour. Success is sweet, isn't it?

If you have performed lower than expectations, I hope that you will brace yourself and choose your stream/secondary school carefully as it is a major decision. Select a school which will develop you well. Who knows? You may ace at your secondary school and triumph!

If you need my advice about the choice of stream/secondary school, I will be on duty tomorrow, 25 Nov, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. See you on posting date, 21 Dec.

Dear 6 Brilliant,

I am sorry that I did not get a chance to bid everyone farewell on your last day together as a class. I was held up in an important meeting. Just as I was about to drive out of the school gate, Mutiara gave me a bear hug before returning to her friends whose eyes were brimming with tears. At that moment, a lump rose in my throat. Our time together was very short, 34 weeks to be exact. I hope that I have made a positive difference to your life and spurred you on to do the best for yourself. I really pray hard that on next Thursday, there will be wide smiles on your faces when you receive your results and that you will enter the secondary school of your choice. Last nag from me: The PSLE is not the end of your academic journey, it is just the beginning. Strive hard in secondary school and do your parents and me proud. Take care!

Love,
Mrs Teo

Hi 6 Brilliant

Please forgive this very absent-minded teacher here. I forgot to tell you that you have to be in PE attire for our health camp this coming Monday. The right attire is especially important for girls because you may have to do push-ups and such during the exercise session. Also, I would like to remind you not to bring any junk food or soft drinks along. Special thanks to Hanis, Amandeep, Chee Liang, Amanda Ng, Dion Lee who have very cheerfully agreed to relay the message through telephone and MSN. Apologies again.

Hi everyone,

I think it would be helpful if we could extend the supplementary lesson up to 11 a.m. instead of ending it at 10 a.m. This way we can cover more HOT questions. Please inform your parents of the extension.

Hi Chee Liang,

This post is regarding your question on the value of the digit in the tens place for 1x2x3x4...99:

Think of what generates a zero at the end of a number.Pick a number - say 3.What do you have to do to 3 to add a zero to the end of it?I think you'll agree that the answer is: multiply it by ten.So certainly 1x2x3...20 will have at least two zeros at the end of it because you multiply by 10 two times in the computation. So the answer is "0" because any number multiplied by a number with two zeros at the back of it will generate even more zeros. If you want more examples, you can look at http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/55763.html. Hope my answer is helpful.

Hi everyone,

Remember to bring your Mathematical set tomorrow. Please show workings for all questions and attempt all questions. If you are stuck on a question, come back to it later.

Hi, recall the question where the ice cube was wrapped in wire gauze and immersed in a test tube of water which was then heated at the surface. Some elaboration : Convection is the transfer of heat in a liquid or gas as the hotter part rises and the cooler heavier part sinks. Conduction is the passing of heat by contact. Since the water was heated on top, the heat can only travel to the ice cube by conduction and not convection. Since water is a poor conductor of heat, the heat does not reach the ice cube and it remains a solid instead of melting. Hope that you are clearer now.

Hi everyone in 6 Brilliant,

This is the crucial one week leading up to the PSLE. I know that the workload is mounting and the pressure is overwhelming but you have to hang in there. Those of you who have been at the receiving end of my putdowns, please remember that my outbursts are directed at your actions and not at you. Do not take it personally. I lecture you because you are not WITH me in class. Believe me, I do not derive any pleasure in doing so. I am not giving you a lot of breathing space now but we cannot afford to lag during this critical period. You must all shine because you owe it to yourself. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Unleash your potential and show the world what you are made of!
